Losing visibility to AI search
Your pages read well and extract badly
This is the least visible of the AI visibility problems because nothing looks wrong. The writing is good, the page is comprehensive, the argument builds. And every individual section, lifted out on its own, is unusable.
Short answer
What does chunk-ready content mean and why does it matter?
Retrieval systems do not read your page; they split it into passages and retrieve the ones that match a query. A chunk-ready page is written so each section stands on its own: a question-shaped heading, a direct answer in the first sentences, all the context needed inside that section rather than three paragraphs earlier, and no pronouns pointing at something outside the chunk. Pages built as continuous narrative fragment badly — the retrieved passage arrives without its subject or its qualifier, so the model either misquotes it or skips it. Restructuring existing content typically takes two to four weeks and needs no new writing.
01
How this shows up
If four or more of these are true, this is your problem.
- Long pages with narrative headings that describe rather than ask
- Key claims that depend on context established much earlier
- Sections beginning with 'This means' or 'As mentioned above'
- Definitions and numbers spread across several paragraphs
- Content that summarises poorly when you paste a section into an assistant
- Comprehensive pages that never get quoted
02
Why it happens
Written for linear reading
Good long-form writing builds. Retrieval does not read from the beginning, so it never receives the build.
Context outside the chunk
If the subject of a sentence was named two sections earlier, the extracted passage is ambiguous and the model discards or distorts it.
Headings that are not questions
Section headings that describe a theme rather than pose a question match fewer queries and give weaker signals about what the passage answers.
Buried specifics
Numbers and definitions embedded mid-paragraph are harder to isolate than the same facts in a lead sentence or a list.

Client AEO engagement
The good news is that this is the cheapest AEO fix available. The content already exists and the research is already done; what changes is structure, and the same effort applied to new content produces nothing without it.

How we fix it
- 01
Audit extractability
We take your priority pages, split them the way a retrieval system would, and show you which passages survive isolation and which do not.
- 02
Rewrite headings as questions
Each section answers one question, phrased the way a person would ask it, so the passage matches real queries.
- 03
Front-load the answer
The first two or three sentences of each section contain the complete answer. Nuance and elaboration follow rather than precede.
- 04
Make chunks self-contained
Every section names its subject explicitly and carries its own context, so it can be lifted without breaking.
- 05
Add an answer block per page
A single direct answer near the top of the page, phrased as a complete response to the page's primary question.
05
What changes afterwards
- Sections that stand alone and quote cleanly
- Headings that match how people actually phrase questions
- Answers available in the first lines rather than the conclusion
- Existing content made citable without a new content programme

Questions
People ask us this
Does structuring for AI make content worse for humans?
The opposite, usually. Clear question headings and answers stated up front are how people skim. The style that extracts well is the style that respects a reader's time.
How many pages need restructuring?
Start with the ten to twenty pages carrying commercial intent or existing traffic. Restructuring everything at once is rarely necessary and delays the measurable result.
Can this be automated?
Partially — extractability auditing can be tooled. The rewriting needs judgement about what your specific claims are and which are defensible, which is exactly where generated content fails.
